The Pawcatuck Valley Coin Club is an organization founded in 1962 to promote numismatics in the Eastern Connecticut and Rhode Island area and throughout Connecticut. Members meet on the third Wednesday of the month at 6:30 P.M. at the Stonington Arms Recreation Room located at Route 1, 133 S. Broad St. Pawcatuck, CT. The Juniors Roundtable begins at 6:30 PM, and the Bourse opens at 6:45 PM. The meeting begins at 7:15PM. You can also see us on the web at www.pvcc.4t.com.

Dues are due by January. Dues for the year are: Adult $10, Junior $5, Family $25. A family is considered two adults with one or more junior members. Please make checks payable to “Pawcatuck Valley Coin Club”. You may pay at a meeting or by mail to the Treasurer.

This past year was another busy year for the club. We had a well attended Coin Expo at State Street School in March with over 100 5^th graders enthusiastically looking and learning about President Lincoln coins. Club member Scott Rottinghaus has been elected to the ANA Board of Governors. The Annual Club Coin Show in April went off without any problems and was well attended by dealers, collectors and the public. Finally a great deal of work by the Anniversary Committee has been put forward and the 50^th Anniversary Medal is a reality for this year.

The dues help finance club activities throughout the year. The club has an summer and a holiday party that is free to all members. We are an active member of the American Numismatic Association.

The goal of the Pawcatuck Valley Coin Club is to provide its members with a enjoyable environment in which they can enjoy sharing our hobby with other like-minded enthusiasts. We stress numismatic education and related topics so our members can take share, teach and learn about numismatics.

We encourage members every month to exhibit coins and currency to display with other members. The club publishes its newsletter, THE FRONT PAGE, on a monthly basis and is e-mailed to all members in good standing, friends and coin clubs.

The Pawcatuck Valley Coin Club is interested in presenting the hobby of coins to youngsters and to teach them the history of it and our country. Numismatics, the study of coinage, often lights a fire of interest in subjects like history, science, and art. Collecting leads youngsters in a positive direction. There are opportunities for scholarships to ANA (American Numismatic Association) summer courses of study in Colorado.

We have presented an Expo to the youngsters on a Civil War and Abraham Lincoln theme. The Expo included coins, tokens, and store cards. In 2009, it was the 100^th anniversary of the Lincoln Cent. The U.S. Mint produced a special 4 coin set on Lincoln’s life. We had examples of Exonumia (tokens and store cards) and explained how and why they came to be during the Civil War.

We had a display of obsolete coinage, coins that were in circulation during Lincoln’s life. The kind of coins Lincoln himself would have used.

Numismatics is a hobby and a line of study that can last a life time. It gives pleasure, satisfaction, and knowledge to its hobbyists. Most of us began our love of coins in our youth and it has served us well all through our lives. We look forward to working the elementary and middle schools to promote the knowledge of Numismatics.
